Hello everyone and welcome to Maple Class.

Class Teacher: Miss Lomas

Class Teaching Assistant: Miss Crowther

We hope you've had a lovely half-term and are ready for our last term in Maple Class!

English

This term we are looking at adventure stories!

The children will be writing their own adventure stories based on our book 'The Barnabus Project' by Terry Fan.

Guided Reading

Guided Reading will be done using a whole class approach.  We will be reading our new novel 'Bill's New Frock' by Anne Fine.

We have a real passion about reading at Water Primary School and we encourage our children to have a love of books and reading also.

Maths

In Maths, we will continue to use Power Maths and the children will be taught in year groups.

Year 3 children will be learning about angles and shape.

Year 4 children will be learning about angles and shape.

Timetables are also a very important part of maths and we will continue to develop our understanding of this by using TT Rockstars daily.  It would also help the children considerably if they practise at home.

Please note that Year 4 will carry out a timetables check in July 2024.

Science

In science, our Year 3 children will study Forces and Magnets. They will begin by learning that magnets can attract and repel each other, and that 'attract' means pull towards and 'repel' means push away. We will move onto learning that some metals are attracted to magnets, and that other materials are not.

Our Year 4 children will study sound. They will begin by identifying how sounds are made, associating some of them with something vibrating. They will then move onto recognising that sounds get fainter as the distance from the sound source increases.

Geography

This half-term year 3 and 4 will be learning to build skills in Geography.

This will involve looking at map reading, using compasses correctly and understanding grid references. We will look at maps of our local area and use these to identify physical and human features.

P.E

PE will continue to be taught in mixed year groups with PE continuing to take place on Tuesday afternoons for all children in Maple Class. Please could you ensure that children come to school wearing the correct P.E. kits on the day of their session.

Readers

We expect children to be reading at home most nights for around 10/15 minutes. We want to encourage a love of reading as much as possible so that children can understand the key aspects of reading.

Spellers

The children will receive spellings every Friday to learn for the following week.  We will complete our spelling activities every Friday.

Snack

If you wish for your child to have snack, this will need to be paid via Parent Pay.

A note from Miss Lomas

If you have any questions or concerns, my door is always open.

Thank you so much for your continued support.
