Blossom Class - Year 4 & 5
Welcome to Blossom Class
Class Teacher: Miss Lomas
Class Teaching Assistant: Mr Riley
Welcome back, everyone! I hope you've had a lovely Christmas break and are ready for the new term ahead.
SPRING 1 - PE Day: Thursday
SPRING 1 - Swimming Day: Thursday
English
In English, we will be diving into the enchanting world of 'Nevermoor' by Jessica Townsend. This fantasy novel is filled with captivating characters and magical settings.
Throughout this unit, we will explore the use of humour in writing, understand how figurative language is used and, as we reach the end of our unit, we will put our skills to the test by writing a formal letter.
Maths
We will be continuing using Power Maths this year in our lessons.
Both the year 4's and 5's will be starting off the new term with a multiplication and division unit. Throughout this unit, we will be exploring various methods of multiplication and division, including the use of arrays and the area model. We’ll also be tackling word problems to strengthen our understanding of how to apply these skills in real-world situations.
Timetables are also a very important part of maths and we will continue to develop our understanding of this by using TT Rockstars daily. It would also help the children considerably if they practise at home.
Please note that Year 4 will carry out a timetables check in July 2025.
History
In our upcoming history lessons, we will be delving into a fascinating and crucial period of our country's past: World War II. We will investigate the various factors that contributed to the outbreak of conflict and how Britain reacted in those times. Another key focus will be on the preparations made to protect civilians from the threat of enemy bombing during the war, particularly during the Blitz. We will examine what life was like for families who sought refuge in air-raid shelters and how communities came together.
Science
Our new topic in our science is 'Living Things and their Habitats'.
We'll start by dissecting and labelling the parts of a flowering plant. This means we will carefully take apart plants to identify and understand their different parts, including the male and female structures.
We will also learn about the processes of natural and artificial asexual reproduction in plants. We’ll discuss methods like cuttings and layering, and we'll even have the chance to observe some real-life examples.
Readers
We expect children to be reading at home most nights for around 10/15 minutes. We want to encourage a love of reading as much as possible so that children can understand the key aspects of reading.
P.E and Swimming
Our P.E. lesson will be on a Thursday. Blossom Class will also have their swimming lessons on Thursday afternoons. Please make sure children come in full P.E kit and bring their swimming kit with them.
Spellings
The children will receive their spellings every Friday.
We will have a spelling lesson every Monday to consolidate their weekly spellings.
Snacks
If you would like to buy a healthy snack it is £1 per week, this can be payable as £7 for the half-term through ParentPay.
If you have any questions or concerns, my door is always open.
