Check if you or your child has coronavirus symptoms
If you have any of the main symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19), get a test as soon as possible. Stay at home until you get the result.
Main symptoms
The main symptoms of coronavirus are:
- a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
- a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
- a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal
Most people with coronavirus have at least 1 of these symptoms.
What to do if you have symptoms and Isolation
If you have any of the main symptoms of coronavirus:
- Use a lateral flow test for a rapid result. If positive, you do not need to book a PCR test.
- Stay at home and do not have visitors until you get your test result – only leave your home to have a test.
- If positive, self-isolate immediately. You must report the LFD to the NHS website https://www.gov.uk/report-covid19-result
- Day 5 - use a LFD to test again, if negative you can test on day 6 (at least 24 hours apart) and if negative you can resume normal activities.
- If positive, you must continue to self-isolate until two negative LFD tests are 24 hours apart.
If you are still showing symptoms, you must continue to self-isolate and contact a doctor.
Please use the flow chart below if you have received a positive LFD test or PCR.
If you have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive with COVID, and are vaccinated, you must take daily LFD tests for 7 days.
If you are unvaccinated, and have been in close contact with someone who is positive with COVID 19, you must self-isolate for 10 days.
